As part of the on-going campaign in St Helens to take a STAND against disorder and anti-social behaviour, a further nine Banning Orders have been issued at the St Helens Pub Watch meeting on 5 December 2007.
STAND St Helens Against Night-time Disorder was launched by St Helens Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and the Pubwatch Schemes in the Town Centre, Newton and Earlestown areas. Under the initiative, anyone who is violent towards bar staff, arrested and charged with serious assault or disorder, damages property or use pub premises to supply drugs will receive an interim ban from licensed premises in the areas covered by the three schemes. The St Helens Pubwatch committee will then review the case to determine the length of the banning order.
At the Pubwatch meeting, the following Banning Orders were imposed for offences occuring in the Town Centre in November:-
A lifetime ban was issued to a 21 year old man from Parr for assault.
Working together
Four 12 month bans issued to a 21 year old man from Parr for being drunk and disorderly, a 29 year old man from Parr for being drunk and disorderly and assault, a 22 year old man from Clinkham Wood for criminal damage and an 18 year old man from Clock Face for being drunk and disorderly and assault.
Four 6 month bans issued to a 22 year old man of no fixed abode, a 24 year old man from St Helens, an 18 year old man from Haresfinch and a 21 year old man from Parr for drunk and disorderly behaviour,
If the banning orders are breached, Merseyside Police and St Helens Pubwatch Committee will consider an application to court for an Anti-Social Behaviour Order.
Chief Inspector Mike Constantine, Partnership Development Officer, commented, This is an excellent example of local licensees, Police and the Council working together to ensure visitors to the Town Centre enjoy a night out in safety. We want everyone to enjoy all the facilities our Town has to offer and we will continue to crack down on anti-social behaviour across the Borough and take robust action against those committing such offences.
